About GLMCU

Mission statement:    Great Lakes Members credit union is dedicated to providing quality financial services and related consumer programs to meet our members' needs, while maintaining a sound financial condition.

Great Lakes Members Credit Union proudly celebrates over 69 years of service to our members. We are a full-service cooperative financial institution owned by our members. Originally founded in 1941, we serve employees engaged in the transportation, processing and distribution of dairy products within the counties of Wayne Oakland, Macomb and Washtenaw Counties. We have had several mergers over the years including Dearborn Postal Employees in 1998. Now we have expanded to be a community Credit Union. We are able to serve persons who live, work, worship or attend school and businesses or other legal entities located in the Cities of  Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Garden City,  Inkster, Wayne, Westland, Livonia, or the township of Redford. We are excited by this new opportunity and look forward to the growth this will bring us and hope to be able to serve you in even more ways in the future.

Once you become a member, your immediate family members are also eligible to join.

Previously called Dairymen’s Credit Union, the name was changed to Great Lakes Members Credit Union in January 1997, to better reflect the organization and growth of our membership. As of January 2010 we have more than 2,100 members and $ 10 million in assets.

Because of strong partnerships with credit union service organizations, we are able to provide our members a full range of financial services typically available at much larger financial institutions. In addition to our main branch office in Dearborn, Michigan, members can use any of the Family Service Center branches located throughout Michigan. Our members also enjoy surcharge-free access to hundreds of CO-OP Network ATMs. We have now added Shared Branching at different Credit Unions across the state.

We owe our success to the ongoing support of members, staff and dedicated volunteers. Our volunteer Board of Directors, which meets monthly, includes Chairperson Mark Eaton, Vice-Chair Susan Zain, Secretary Lawrence Eaton, Treasurer Aldo Martin and Director Edward Bartos.

Our friendly, professional staff are always eager to listen to members needs. They include General Manager Aldo Martin, Assistant General Manager Mary Jo O’Neill, Loan Manager Jane Shoemaker, Member Service Representative Margaret Elliott, Loan Officer Dorothy Hayward, and Collector/Marketing Susan Knopf.
